Since the Phoenician era, Lebanon, a thousand-year-old melting pot of civilizations, has spread its culture throughout the Middle East and around the Mediterranean. Baal, the Phoenician god, lord of the rich Bekaa plain, gave his name to the city of Ballabak, where the famous sanctuary of Jupiter was located.
