Umayyad – Handmade Syrian Backgammon & Chess Board

Named for the dynasty that built Damascus into a center of art and craft, this board carries a game people across the Levant have played for generations, known locally as tawle — now hand-built for your own living room.

The mosaic face is assembled by hand from dyed wood strips and mother-of-pearl set into a solid wood base, using the traditional Damascene marquetry technique, then finished with a hand-rubbed natural shellac for a warm, glossy shine. Every board is handmade from start to finish, so yours will be genuinely one of a kind.
