Star of Damascus – Handmade Syrian Backgammon & Chess Board

Look closely and you'll spot the repeating star motif that gives this board its name — hundreds of tiny wood and mother-of-pearl pieces set by hand into the surface, the kind of detail that turns a game board into a genuine piece of Damascene craftsmanship.

Thin rods of dyed wood and mother-of-pearl are cut, bundled and set piece by piece into a solid wood base, then sealed with a hand-rubbed natural shellac that brings out a deep, warm shine. This is the same technique Damascus artisans have used for generations, so no two boards ever turn out quite the same.
