Old Damascus – Handmade Syrian Backgammon & Chess Board

Named for the walled old city where this craft has been passed down for generations, this board plays two games in one — flip between backgammon and chess without needing a second set.

Artisans hand-cut and bundle strips of dyed wood and mother-of-pearl, then inlay them into a solid wood base using the traditional Damascene marquetry method before applying a hand-rubbed natural shellac finish for a deep, lasting shine. Because it's entirely handmade, small natural variations in the pattern are part of the piece, not a flaw.
