City of Jasmine – Handmade Syrian Backgammon & Chess Board
Damascus has been called the City of Jasmine for centuries, and this board is a small piece of that same craft heritage. It's a handmade backgammon and chess board built to be handed down, not used up — one board, two games, made entirely by hand.
Skilled artisans cut and bundle thin rods of dyed wood and mother-of-pearl, then set them by hand into a solid wood base in the classic Damascene marquetry technique before sealing the surface with a hand-polished natural shellac. The result is a warm, deep shine and a level of detail only patient handwork can produce — a genuine keepsake or gift.
